Abstract

Introduction: Endodontics is the treatment that starts from the correct diagnosis, etiology and preparation of the dental organ to be treated, its purpose is to repair diseased tissues stimulating their function and esthetics, it involves the irrigation of the root canal system as a phase to achieve success in endodontic therapy, such as ultrasonic irrigation and laser-activated irrigation, same that when correctly executed avoid accidents and complications, during and after treatment. Objective: To compare the efficacy of ultrasonic irrigation and laser-activated irrigation in the elimination of bacteria and dentinal debris during root canal treatment. Materials and methods: Databases such as PubMed, Elsevier and Scielo were used to find scientific studies related to the established topic. According to inclusion and exclusion criteria, in order to obtain studies related to the present research, a total of 19 articles were selected. Results: Finally, after comparing the information obtained, it was possible to define that both methods are effective in disinfecting root canals, with a high index of 95%. Conclusion: It is advisable to implement the use of both methods with a final irrigation reinforcement to ensure better results, an excellent procedure by the operator, less risk of pain and complications in the patient.
