Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is a set of extracorporeal techniques that replace renal function and perform blood purification. The objective of this review is to describe CRRT in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) , through the use of information obtained from scientific databases such as Elsevier, Redalyc, Scopus, Latindex and digital platforms such as Google Scholar in order to improve the management of critically ill patients with renal dysfunction, thus contributing to the reduction of morbidity and mortality. Among the main results, it was found that this therapy is indicated for certain patients and several aspects must be taken into account to avoid complications. CRRT in the ICU was described, showing that among the therapeutic alternatives are continuous low-speed ultrafiltration, continuous venovenous hemofiltration, continuous venovenous hemodialysis, and continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration.
