Minimally invasive dentistry is a revolutionary approach that seeks to preserve natural tooth structure, in contrast to older practices that involved the excessive removal of healthy tooth tissue, it prioritizes minimal interventions using advanced techniques and materials, based on a thorough understanding of dental biology, early detection of caries, and the use of conservative materials and techniques.
Minimally invasive dentistry has become an important pillar in modern dentistry because it focuses on the patient, prevention and preservation of oral health in the long term, focusing on treatments that seek to preserve as much healthy dental tissue as possible, thus highlighting various preventive and therapeutic tools to improve oral health and avoid traumatic intervention. Among these tools are fluoride varnishes, which are liquid solutions that are applied directly to the tooth surface and form a protective layer that gradually releases fluoride, strengthening the enamel and helping to prevent dental caries.
On the other hand, when the carious lesion has advanced, minimally invasive dentistry seeks to perform atraumatic restorative treatments in order to minimize the loss of dental tissue during the preparation and placement of restorations, which is achieved through the use of techniques and materials that require minimal or no removal of healthy tissue, so this new approach has offered an improvement in the treatments used for the prevention and restoration of carious lesions.
