Abstract

At the end of 2019, a new coronavirus was identified as the etiological agent of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), known as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), constituting a public health problem. Therefore, in the present investigation, it will focus mainly on determining the clinical and epidemiological characterization during the COVID-19 pandemic in a public unit in the city of Santo Domingo in the period 2020 - 2022. The methodology used for this study was cross-sectional retrospective, by analyzing a database obtained from a public health unit. A non-probability sampling was performed for convenience. The results obtained based on positive cases are 35% in 2020 (OR 1 95% CI, 1,000 - 1,024), 41% in 2021 (OR 42,040 95% CI 36,320 - 47,769) and 22% in 2022 (OR 24 IC 95% 1,183 – 504,413), with respect to the entire period analyzed. The most frequent symptoms were fever, cough and dyspnea, with respect to the deceased there was a higher trend corresponding to 63% in the 2020 period, with a total of 874 deceased patients in 2020, 2021 and 2022
